To show menus, NimROD Look & Feel does some things not allowed in applets, mainly to capture the screen area that will be under the menu to blur it. If you use the normal jar in an applet, menus will be as transparent as they are configured, but the background won't be blured. The rest of the controls will be the same, but menus won't have as much eye-candy as the applications.

If you want menus with a blur background, you must use a signed jar, so the JVM and the navigator sandbox will allow to get screen captures.

The next two buttons will start a signed and a non-signed version of NimROD Look & Feel. Please observe how the signed version blurs the menu background while the non-signed version doesn't. It's more easy to see the efect if you make menus completely transparent moving the "Menu Opacity" control to the left and clicking the "Test" button.

Normal Signed
It seems that your navigator doesn't support applets. It seems that your navigator doesn't support applets.

If you want to use a signed jar version of NimROD Look & Feel in your applet, sign it yourself, but keep in mind that the user will see the same dialog you've seen a moment ago and that he will have to accept the certificate. I don't give a signed version of NimROD Look & Feel because I don't know what legal responsabilitys could... you know. If you want to use the signed jar used in this page, well, is under your responsability.

You can read an article about how to sing jar files here.
